# Financial Statements

> Unlock robust financial reporting for your user base

## Overview

Whether or not you are leveraging one of [Tight's native integrations](/integrations/native-integrations), Tight
automatically keeps a double-entry [General Ledger](/embeddable-ui/react/accounting/general-ledger) behind the scenes for all of your users. While
your users may never want to look at a GL or [Chart of Accounts](/embeddable-ui/react/accounting/chart-of-accounts), the beauty of the
behind-the-scenes GL is that they get all the financial reporting that they could ever need, *without* the burden of
having to manage a General Ledger or understand bookkeeping.

## Interactive Drill-Downs

Every number on every financial report is clickable and drillable. When your users click on any line item, whether
it is "Services Income" for a specific month on the P\&L or all "Accounts Receivable" on the Balance Sheet, they
instantly see the underlying transactions that compose that figure.

This transparency builds trust in the numbers and enables self-service exploration. Business owners can answer their own
questions without needing to contact support or their bookkeeper. For bookkeepers working in your platform, these
drill-downs provide the audit trail needed for professional accounting work.

## Core Financial Statements

### [Balance Sheet](/embeddable-ui/react/financial-statements/balance-sheet)

### [Cash Flow Statement](/embeddable-ui/react/financial-statements/cash-flow-statement)

### [Profit & Loss (Income) Statement](/embeddable-ui/react/financial-statements/profit-loss-report)

### [Trial Balance](/embeddable-ui/react/financial-statements/trial-balance-report)

### Expense Reports

### Additional Reports

Tight provides [dozens of specialized reports](/embeddable-ui/plain-js/pages/financial-statements/report-dashboard)
beyond the core financial statements. These operational reports help your users make data-driven decisions without
leaving your platform:

**Common operational reports include:**

* Expenses by Vendor, Revenue by Customer
* Aged Accounts Receivable and Payable
* Transaction Detail exports for custom analysis
* Tax filing reports (Form 1040 Schedule C, Form 1065, Form 1120-S, Form 1120, and T2125)

**Customization capabilities:**
Every report supports filtering by date range, dimension, account type, and custom fields. Users can save custom report
configurations for recurring analysis. For platform-specific reporting needs, Tight's reporting engine can be extended
with custom report templates.

Direct API access to any and all accounting data is also available for building fully custom reports or integrations.

## Use cases

### Real-time Business Insights

All Tight financial reports update in real-time as transactions flow through the system; your users get instant
visibility into current financial performance. The real-time nature reduces support burden (users see accurate data
immediately) and enables your platform to become
the single source of truth for financial decision-making.

If desired, you can consume report data via JSON API to build custom visualizations like runway calculators, KPI
dashboards, or vertical-specific metrics.

### Dimensions

Tight's financial reports fully support [dimensions](/guides/business-owners/dimensions), enabling
multi-dimensional profitability analysis. Users can segment any financial report by location, product line, project, or
department to understand which parts of their business drive performance.

### AI CFO

Tight's [Financial Statements MCP tools](/ai/mcp-tools/financial-statements-mcp) enable AI assistants to access and
analyze financial reports through natural language. Your users can ask questions like "Show me our Q4 P\&L by department"
or "How has our cash position changed over the past year?" and get instant, accurate analysis powered by Tight's
real-time financial data.
