Overview
Tight’s bill payment experience makes it easy for you to provide your users with a full-featured bill management
experience, enabling them to create, review, and pay their bills directly in your platform.
Tight automatically reconciles bills, payments, and the associated (and often batched) bank withdrawals, while
maintaining the full double-entry General Ledger under the hood. That results in your users receiving real-time
accounting on all of their payable activity without any manual reconciliation.
By leveraging Tight’s native payment processor integrations, you can enable your
users to pay their bills directly in your platform.
When using any of Tight’s native payment processor integrations, you own the relationship between your end users
and the provider, including any associated economic benefits.
For platforms that already offer a full bill pay experience, a custom integration
with Tight enables all of the above functionality without altering your existing user flows.
Use cases
If your platform doesn’t already offer bill management, you can embed the Bill Dashboard to add full-featured bill management into your
platform. Your users can create bills, manage vendors, process/track payments and fees, and have all the accounting automatically handled in the background.
Adding payment processing
If you already have bill management in your product but want to add payment processing capabilities,
Tight’s native payment processor integrations enable you to add this functionality
without building any UI yourself. Your users can pay bills via ACH, wire transfer, or credit card, and Tight will
automatically:
- Match payments to bills
- Track payment processing fees as expenses
- Reconcile the payments against bank withdrawals
- Update accounting entries in real-time
Automatic bill payment reconciliation
If your platform already offers both bill management and payment processing but lacks automated accounting
capabilities, you can sync your bill and payment data directly to the Tight API to enable automatic bill payment
reconciliation.
Bill Payment Example
Here’s a concrete example of what Tight automates:
- The business owner receives 4 bills from 4 vendors for $300 each ($1,200 total).
- The business owner processes payment for all 4 bills via ACH. The payment processor charges $2 per transaction ($8
in total fees).
- The bank account shows a total withdrawal of $1,208 ($1,200 in vendor payments plus $8 in processing fees).
- The Tight API automatically matches the 4 bills with the bank withdrawal, creates expenses for the payment processing
fees, and reconciles the total amount to the bank withdrawal. Furthermore, the Tight Embedded experience nests these
transaction line items neatly under a single withdrawal row, giving the business owner complete visibility into their
bill payments and fees without manual reconciliation work.
