Overview

Instead of building an integration with Adyen in-house, Tight communicates directly with Adyen on your behalf using your Adyen platform account. This enables you to own the relationship between your customer and Adyen, including any associated economic benefits, while getting a seamless invoicing user experience with automatic payout reconciliation on the user’s books.

Automated Reconciliation

Adyen deposits money directly into your users’ bank accounts on a regular cadence. When utilizing one of the Tight Bank Transactions integrations, e.g. Plaid, this deposit will also be ingested by the Tight API as part of that integration. Importantly, Tight’s integration with Adyen operates at the platform level, allowing Tight to reconcile the Balance Platform fees alongside the associated payments and ultimately the payouts to the end-user’s bank accounts and the transaction data from Plaid, saving your users time that would have otherwise been spent manually reconciling these transactions in legacy accounting systems. Become an Adyen Balance Platform

If you haven’t already done so, you should create an Adyen account for your company/app and set up an Adyen Balance Platform so you can process payments on behalf of your users. Once you have created your Adyen Balance Platform, some admin-only confirmation is required:

Create Adyen API Credentials

Adyen API credentials are what allow Tight to pull your users’ payments, fees, and payouts from Adyen so that they can be reconciled on your users’ books. To get started, log in to your Adyen Customer Area and select your Company account.

Generate a Balance Platform API Key

  1. Navigate to Developers -> API credentials, then select the “Platforms” tab
  2. Click “Create new credential”. Under “Credential type”, select “Web service user”, then click “Create credential”
  3. On the “Configure API credential” page, under “Permissions”, and enable the TransferService Webservice Retrieve role
  4. Under “Server settings” -> “Authentication”, select the “API key” tab, then click “Generate API key”
  5. Click the copy icon and note down the API key

Generate a Report Service User API Key

  1. Navigate to Developers -> API credentials
  2. Click “Create new credential”. Under “User type”, select “Report user”, then click “Save”
  3. Under “Roles and Associated Accounts” -> “Roles”, enable the BalancePlatform Report Download role
  4. Under “Authentication”, click “Generate New API Key”
  5. Click the copy icon and note down the API key

Production Setup

Once you are ready to go live in the “Production” environment, you should repeat the above steps in your Adyen live Customer Area. API keys from the test environment will not work in production.

Connect Tight Webhook URLs to Adyen (Real-Time Updates)

By subscribing the Tight API to receive webhooks on your Adyen account, Tight will be able to pull in updates to your users’ payments, fees, and payouts in real-time. To get started, log in to your Adyen Customer Area, select your Company account, and navigate to Developers -> Webhooks. For each webhook, you will add your Tight Webhook URL for the Test environment or your Webhook URL for the Live environment. For Test mode, add https://webhook.sandbox.hurdlr.com/adyenWebhook. For Live mode, add https://webhook.prod.hurdlr.com/adyenWebhook.

Configure Webhooks

Create each of the webhooks in the table below:
  1. Select the tab listed below, click “Create new webhook”, then click “Add” next to the webhook
  2. Under “General”, select the version listed below
  3. Under “Server configuration”, enter the Tight Webhook URL for your environment
  4. Under “Events”, select the events listed below, then click “Save configuration”

Schedule the Balance Platform Payout Report

  1. Navigate to Reports, then select the “Balance Platform Payout” report
  2. Click “Manage report”, then select “Automatic (schedule based)”
  3. Keep the “Automatic generation” toggle selected, then click “Close”

Securely share your Adyen keys

Next, you will need to share the keys you collected above with Tight:
  1. Balance Platform name (balancePlatformName)
  2. Balance Platform API key (balancePlatformApiKey)
  3. Report Service User API key (reportApiKey)
Once collected, use the Tight API to configure your Adyen integration.

Connect your users’ Adyen accounts

Once your Adyen integration is configured, you can connect each user’s Adyen account to their company in Tight by programmatically linking the user’s Adyen account with their Adyen Account Holder ID (accountHolderId).
